Persona 2 Ultimate: My open letter

thebrokenbirdcage:

[Note to any followers of mine: This rant is long, has Persona 4 spoilers, and is filled with terrible arguments, and some not-so-subtle homophobia. If you’re having a bad day, don’t read this, because it may make it worse. If you’re having a good day, skip past because it will ruin it.]

Dear tumblr (or at least to some people on tumblr):

While I apologize for the offense, I don’t regret posting at all. I never intended to attack anyone in particular. I posted as a passive/aggressive form to protest against my “inactive” tumblr by posing as a troll. However, I never intend to…

Wow, dude, you need to get a fucking life. I mean, I spend way too much time thinking of how to write some good slash/BL fic, and even I have to say you’re a penultimate example of butthurt fan that can’t deal with how people see something differently than you do.

You don’t like the pairings? Fine, you’re allowed to. You think that’s ruining the characters, and that if Jun were gay he’d be banging every dude he ever saw and not just Tatsuya, who he actually knows and has a relationship with? Well fuck you, because you clearly don’t know how being gay works. That’s like saying straight people go around fucking all the damn time, which I’m going to assume you know doesn’t happen.

To clarify, I don’t hate the pairing itself. Personally, I see them as Best Friends Forever but NEVER and I NEVER WILL see them as lovers.

Yeah, you don’t hate the pairing itself- except when they get romantically involved, then it’s just WRONG.

Seriously, you think the problem with pairings and characterization is because BL fans are all a bunch of brainless idiots (And there’s no possibility that they could be gay themselves and projecting their sexual identity onto the character(s) to feel more comfortable or happy about who they are)?

News flash: 90% of slash sucks. 90% of het sucks. 90% of stories that focus on no pairings whatsoever suck. Sometimes a shitty writer is just a shitty writer, and the gender of the characters really has no impact on that.

Oh, and this?

And don’t get me started on the P4 anime episode where supposedly there was this huge homophobia going on. I personally enjoyed it AND laughed out loud at the tent and waterfall scene. It was awesome! :D

If you can’t see the problem with exploiting a character’s sexual confusion (something many teens go through, and are harassed for, and in worse case scenarios commit suicide or are killed over) for cheap laughs, then you are an asshole. You say multiple times throughout this rant that you’re not a homophobe, but from your immense hatred of ANY BL pairings (because making someone gay instantly changes the character, if I’m understanding you correctly) and the fact that you’ve even thought far enough ahead for the thin disclaimer of “But I’m not homophobic” really comes off to me that you have a problem you need to sort out.

Now, if you don’t mind me, I’m off to write some slash fic for the Persona games and see that fandom is good again.

So, uh, after hearing so much about the subtext between Tatsuya and Jun in P2 (a game I haven’t played yet, but plan to play its PSP port of sometime in the future) and hearing other people’s replies to the rant saying “But the creators say they could be gay” I decided to check this out.

All I did was type “Tatsuya and Jun are gay” into Google. My search brought me:

You couldn’t “date” him, but you could become lovers with him. That’s pretty close.”

Rather late in Persona 2 Innocent Sin and after many revelations to all involved, the party eventually corners Tatsuya and asks him bluntly who he’s in love with. He has the choice of picking any of the four. The slash option (Jun) almost makes sense compared to Lisa and Maya. (Though Enteral Punishment leans towards Maya)”

In Persona 2: Innocent Sin, released in 1999 for the PlayStation, one of the playable characters was Kurosu Jun, a schoolboy with a connection to the game’s main villain. Jun is a homosexual, and it is revealed through flashbacks that he and the main character, Suou Tatsuya, exchanged gifts as children and promised to always be together. Both Tatsuya and Jun have kept these gifts, and Tatsuya is often seen playing with the lighter he received from Jun. Through the actions of the player, Tatsuya could end up in a relationship with one of three romantic interests; one of these was Kurosu Jun. If Tatsuya and Jun are in a relationship, they receive a special “lovers” contact combo.

So I’ll be off laughing at the “My conclusion is that Jun Kurosu is NOT gay.” comment from the original ranter.
